ובר הדד מלכא דארם כנש ית כל משריתיה ותלתין ותרין מלכין עמיה וסוסון ורתיכין וסליק וצר על שומרון ואגיח קרבא בה:
bh qrba wagykh shwmrwn el wtsr wslyq wrthykyn wswswn emyh mlkyn wthryn wthlthyn mshrythyh kl yth knsh darm mlka hdd wbr
Ben Hadad the king of Syria gathered all his army together; and there were thirty-two kings with him, with horses and chariots. He went up and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.

ושלח אזגדין לות אחאב מלכא דישראל לקרתא:
lqrtha dyshral mlka akhab lwth azgdyn wshlkh
He sent messengers into the city to Ahab king of Israel and said to him, “Ben Hadad says,

ואמר ליה כדנן אמר בר הדד כספך ודהבך דילי הוא ונשך ובנך שפיריא דילי אינון:
aynwn dyly shpyrya wbnk wnshk hwa dyly wdhbk kspk hdd br amr kdnn lyh wamr
‘Your silver and your gold are mine. Your wives also and your children, even the best, are mine.’”

ואתיב מלכא דישראל ואמר כפתגמך רבוני מלכא דילך נפשי וכל דילי:
dyly wkl npshy dylk mlka rbwny kpthgmk wamr dyshral mlka wathyb
The king of Israel answered, “It is according to your saying, my lord, O king. I am yours, and all that I have.”

ותבו אזגדיא ואמרו כדנן אמר בר הדד למימר ארי שלחית לותך למימר כספך ודהבך ונשך ובנך לי תתן:
ththn ly wbnk wnshk wdhbk kspk lmymr lwthk shlkhyth ary lmymr hdd br amr kdnn wamrw azgdya wthbw
The messengers came again and said, “Ben Hadad says, ‘I sent indeed to you, saying, “You shall deliver me your silver, your gold, your wives, and your children;

אלהין כעדנא הדין מחר אשלח ית עבדי לותך ויבלשון ית ביתך וית בתי עבדך ויהי כל רגגא בעינך ישוון בידיהון ויסבון:
wysbwn bydyhwn yshwwn beynk rgga kl wyhy ebdk bthy wyth bythk yth wyblshwn lwthk ebdy yth ashlkh mkhr hdyn kedna alhyn
but I will send my servants to you tomorrow about this time, and they will search your house and the houses of your servants. Whatever is pleasant in your eyes, they will put it in their hand, and take it away.”’”

וקרא מלכא דישראל לכל סבי ארעא ואמר דעו כען וחזו ארי בישתא דין בעי ארי שלח לי לנשי ולבני ולכספי ולדהבי ולא מנעית מניה:

Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, “Please notice how this man seeks mischief; for he sent to me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I didn’t deny him.”

ואמרו ליה כל סביא וכל עמא לא תשמע ולא תיבי:
thyby wla thshme la ema wkl sbya kl lyh wamrw
All the elders and all the people said to him, “Don’t listen, and don’t consent.”

ואמר לאזגדי בר הדד אמרו לרבוני מלכא כל די שלחתא לעבדך בקדמיתא אעביד ופתגמא הדין לא איכול למעבד ואזלו אזגדיא ואתיבוהי פתגמא:
pthgma wathybwhy azgdya wazlw lmebd aykwl la hdyn wpthgma aebyd bqdmytha lebdk shlkhtha dy kl mlka lrbwny amrw hdd br lazgdy wamr
Therefore he said to the messengers of Ben Hadad, “Tell my lord the king, ‘All that you sent for to your servant at the first I will do, but this thing I cannot do.’” The messengers departed and brought him back the message.

ושלח ליה בר הדד ואמר כדין יעבדון לי דחלתא וכדין יוספון אם יספוק עפרא דשומרון למיסב בשעולי פרסת רגלי עמא דעמי:
demy ema rgly prsth bshewly lmysb dshwmrwn epra yspwq am ywspwn wkdyn dkhltha ly yebdwn kdyn wamr hdd br lyh wshlkh
Ben Hadad sent to him, and said, “The gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria will be enough for handfuls for all the people who follow me.”

ואתיב מלכא דישראל ואמר אמרו ליה לא ישתבח דמזדרז ונחית בקרבא כגבר דנצח וסליק מנה:
mnh wslyq dntskh kgbr bqrba wnkhyth dmzdrz yshthbkh la lyh amrw wamr dyshral mlka wathyb
The king of Israel answered, “Tell him, ‘Don’t let him who puts on his armor brag like he who takes it off.’”

והוה כד שמע ית פתגמא הדין והוא שתי הוא ומלכיא במטליא ואמר לעבדוהי אזדרזו וכמנו על קרתא:
qrtha el wkmnw azdrzw lebdwhy wamr bmTlya wmlkya hwa shthy whwa hdyn pthgma yth shme kd whwh
When Ben Hadad heard this message as he was drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, he said to his servants, “Prepare to attack!” So they prepared to attack the city.

והא נביא חד קריב לות אחאב מלכא דישראל ואמר כדנן אמר יי החזיתא ית כל המונא סגיאה הדין הא אנא מסר ליה בידך יומא דין ותידע ארי אנא יי:
yy ana ary wthyde dyn ywma bydk lyh msr ana ha hdyn sgyah hmwna kl yth hkhzytha yy amr kdnn wamr dyshral mlka akhab lwth qryb khd nbya wha
Behold, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel, and said, “Yahweh says, ‘Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will deliver it into your hand today. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.’”

ואמר אחאב במן ואמר כדנן אמר יי בעולמי רברבי מדינתא ואמר מן יטקיס קרבא ואמר את:
ath wamr qrba yTqys mn wamr mdyntha rbrby bewlmy yy amr kdnn wamr bmn akhab wamr
Ahab said, “By whom?” He said, “Yahweh says, ‘By the young men of the princes of the provinces.’” Then he said, “Who shall begin the battle?” He answered, “You.”

ומנא ית עולימי רברבי מדינתא והוו מאתן ותלתין ותרין ובתריהון מנא ית כל עמא כל בני ישראל שבעא אלפין:
alpyn shbea yshral bny kl ema kl yth mna wbthryhwn wthryn wthlthyn mathn whww mdyntha rbrby ewlymy yth wmna
Then he mustered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty-two. After them, he mustered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.

ונפקו בטיהרא ובר הדד שתי רוי במטליא הוא ומלכיא תלתין ותרין מלכיא מסעדין ליה:
lyh msedyn mlkya wthryn thlthyn wmlkya hwa bmTlya rwy shthy hdd wbr bTyhra wnpqw
They went out at noon. But Ben Hadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty-two kings who helped him.
17
ונפקו עולימי רברבי מדינתא בקדמיתא ושלח בר הדד וחויאו ליה למימר גברין נפקו משמרון:
mshmrwn npqw gbryn lmymr lyh wkhwyaw hdd br wshlkh bqdmytha mdyntha rbrby ewlymy wnpqw
The young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Ben Hadad sent out, and they told him, saying, “Men are coming out from Samaria.”

ואמר אם לשלמא נפקו אחודונון כד חיין ואם לקרבא נפקו כד חיין אחודונון:
akhwdwnwn khyyn kd npqw lqrba wam khyyn kd akhwdwnwn npqw lshlma am wamr
He said, “If they have come out for peace, take them alive; or if they have come out for war, take them alive.”

ואלין נפקו מן קרתא עולימי רברבי מדינתא וחילא דבתריהון:
dbthryhwn wkhyla mdyntha rbrby ewlymy qrtha mn npqw walyn
So these went out of the city, the young men of the princes of the provinces, and the army which followed them.
20
וקטלו גבר גברוהי ואפכו אנש ארם ורדפונון ישראל ואשתזיב בר הדד מלכא דארם על סוסון ועמיה תרין זוג פרשין:
prshyn zwg thryn wemyh swswn el darm mlka hdd br washthzyb yshral wrdpwnwn arm ansh wapkw gbrwhy gbr wqTlw
They each killed his man. The Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them. Ben Hadad the king of Syria escaped on a horse with horsemen.

ונפק מלכא דישראל ומחא ית סוסותא ומגיר ית רתיכיא ומחא באנש ארם מחא סגיאה:
sgyah mkha arm bansh wmkha rthykya yth wmgyr swswtha yth wmkha dyshral mlka wnpq
The king of Israel went out and struck the horses and chariots, and killed the Syrians with a great slaughter.

וקריב נביא לות מלכא דישראל ואמר ליה אזיל אתקף ודע וחזי ית דתעביד ארי לזמן סופא דשתא מלכא דארם סליק עלך:
elk slyq darm mlka dshtha swpa lzmn ary dthebyd yth wkhzy wde athqp azyl lyh wamr dyshral mlka lwth nbya wqryb
The prophet came near to the king of Israel and said to him, “Go, strengthen yourself, and plan what you must do, for at the return of the year, the king of Syria will come up against you.”

ועבדי מלכא דארם אמרו ליה אלהא דשליט על טוריא אלההון על כן תקיפו מננא וברם נגיח עמהון במישרא אם לא נתקיף מנהון:
mnhwn nthqyp la am bmyshra emhwn ngykh wbrm mnna thqypw kn el alhhwn Twrya el dshlyT alha lyh amrw darm mlka webdy
The servants of the king of Syria said to him, “Their god is a god of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we. But let’s fight against them in the plain, and surely we will be stronger than they.
24
וית פתגמא הדין עביד אעדי מלכיא גבר מאתריה ומני שלטוניא חלופיהון:
khlwpyhwn shlTwnya wmny mathryh gbr mlkya aedy ebyd hdyn pthgma wyth
Do this thing: take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their place.

ואת תמני לך משרין כמשרין דאתקטלא מנך וסוסון כסוסון ורתיכין כרתיכין ונגיח עמהון במישרא אם לא נתקיף מנהון וקביל למימריהון ועבד כן:
kn webd lmymryhwn wqbyl mnhwn nthqyp la am bmyshra emhwn wngykh krthykyn wrthykyn kswswn wswswn mnk dathqTla kmshryn mshryn lk thmny wath
Muster an army like the army that you have lost, horse for horse and chariot for chariot. We will fight against them in the plain, and surely we will be stronger than they are.” He listened to their voice and did so.

והוה לזמן סופא דשתא ומנא בר הדד ית אנש ארם וסליק לאפק לאגחא קרבא עם ישראל:
yshral em qrba lagkha lapq wslyq arm ansh yth hdd br wmna dshtha swpa lzmn whwh
At the return of the year, Ben Hadad mustered the Syrians and went up to Aphek to fight against Israel.

ובני ישראל אתמניאו ואזדמנו ואזלו לקדמותהון ושרו בני ישראל לקבלהון כתרין גזרי עזין ואנש ארם מליאו ית ארעא:
area yth mlyaw arm wansh ezyn gzry kthryn lqblhwn yshral bny wshrw lqdmwthhwn wazlw wazdmnw athmnyaw yshral wbny
The children of Israel were mustered and given provisions, and went against them. The children of Israel encamped before them like two little flocks of young goats, but the Syrians filled the country.

וקריב נביא דיי ואמר לות מלכא דישראל ואמר ליה כדנן אמר יי חלף דאמרו אנש ארם אלהא דשליט על טוריא יי ולא אלהא דשליט על מישריא הוא ואמסר ית כל המונא רבא הדין בידך ותדעון ארי אנא יי:
yy ana ary wthdewn bydk hdyn rba hmwna kl yth wamsr hwa myshrya el dshlyT alha wla yy Twrya el dshlyT alha arm ansh damrw khlp yy amr kdnn lyh wamr dyshral mlka lwth wamr dyy nbya wqryb
A man of God came near and spoke to the king of Israel, and said, “Yahweh says, ‘Because the Syrians have said, “Yahweh is a god of the hills, but he is not a god of the valleys,” therefore I will deliver all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am Yahweh.’”

ושרו אלין לקביל אלין שבעא יומין והוה ביומא שביעאה וקריבו עבדי קרבא ומחו בני ישראל ית אנש ארם מאה אלפין גבר רגלי ביומא חד:
khd bywma rgly gbr alpyn mah arm ansh yth yshral bny wmkhw qrba ebdy wqrybw shbyeah bywma whwh ywmyn shbea alyn lqbyl alyn wshrw
They encamped opposite each other for seven days. Then on the seventh day the battle was joined; and the children of Israel killed one hundred thousand footmen of the Syrians in one day.

ואפכו דאשתארו לאפק לקרתא ונפל שורא על עשרין ושבעה אלפין גברא דאשתארו ובר הדד ערק ועל לקרתא תון בגו תון:
thwn bgw thwn lqrtha wel erq hdd wbr dashtharw gbra alpyn wshbeh eshryn el shwra wnpl lqrtha lapq dashtharw wapkw
But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and the wall fell on twenty-seven thousand men who were left. Ben Hadad fled and came into the city, into an inner room.

ואמרו ליה עבדוהי הא כען שמענא ארי מלכי בית ישראל ארי מלכי גמלי חסדא אינון ניסר כען סקין בחרצנא ואטונין ברישנא ונפוק לות מלכא דישראל מאים יקים ית נפשך:
npshk yth yqym maym dyshral mlka lwth wnpwq bryshna waTwnyn bkhrtsna sqyn ken nysr aynwn khsda gmly mlky ary yshral byth mlky ary shmena ken ha ebdwhy lyh wamrw
His servants said to him, “See now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings. Please let us put sackcloth on our bodies and ropes on our heads, and go out to the king of Israel. Maybe he will save your life.”
32
ואסרו שקין בחרציהון ואטונין ברישיהון ואתו לות מלכא דישראל ואמרו עבדך בר הדד אמר תתקים כען נפשי ואמר העוד כען קים אחי הוא:
hwa akhy qym ken hewd wamr npshy ken ththqym amr hdd br ebdk wamrw dyshral mlka lwth wathw bryshyhwn waTwnyn bkhrtsyhwn shqyn wasrw
So they put sackcloth on their bodies and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, “Your servant Ben Hadad says, ‘Please let me live.’” He said, “Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

וגבריא נחישו ואוחיאו וחטפוהא מניה ואמרו אחוך בר הדד ואמר עולו דברוהי ונפק לותיה בר הדד ואסקיה לרתיכא:
lrthyka wasqyh hdd br lwthyh wnpq dbrwhy ewlw wamr hdd br akhwk wamrw mnyh wkhTpwha wawkhyaw nkhyshw wgbrya
Now the men observed diligently and hurried to take this phrase; and they said, “Your brother Ben Hadad.” Then he said, “Go, bring him.” Then Ben Hadad came out to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.

ואמר ליה קרוין דנסיב אבא מן אבוך אתיב ושוקין תמני לך בדמשק כמא דמני אבא בשמרון ואנא בקים אשלחינך וגזר ליה קים ושלחיה:
wshlkhyh qym lyh wgzr ashlkhynk bqym wana bshmrwn aba dmny kma bdmshq lk thmny wshwqyn athyb abwk mn aba dnsyb qrwyn lyh wamr
Ben Hadad said to him, “The cities which my father took from your father I will restore. You shall make streets for yourself in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria.” “I”, said Ahab, “will let you go with this covenant.” So he made a covenant with him and let him go.

וגברא חד מבני תלמידי נבייא אמר לחבריה בפתגמא דיי מחיני כען ולא אבא גברא למימחיה:
lmymkhyh gbra aba wla ken mkhyny dyy bpthgma lkhbryh amr nbyya thlmydy mbny khd wgbra
A certain man of the sons of the prophets said to his fellow by Yahweh’s word, “Please strike me!” The man refused to strike him.
36
ואמר ליה חלף דלא קבלתא למימרא דיי הא את אזיל מלותי ויקטלנך אריא ואזל מלותיה ואשכחיה אריא וקטליה:
wqTlyh arya washkkhyh mlwthyh wazl arya wyqTlnk mlwthy azyl ath ha dyy lmymra qbltha dla khlp lyh wamr
Then he said to him, “Because you have not obeyed Yahweh’s voice, behold, as soon as you have departed from me, a lion will kill you.” As soon as he had departed from him, a lion found him and killed him.
37
ואשכח גברא אוחרנא ואמר מחיני כען ומחהי גברא מחהי ופדעיה:
wpdeyh mkhhy gbra wmkhhy ken mkhyny wamr awkhrna gbra washkkh
Then he found another man, and said, “Please strike me.” The man struck him and wounded him.
38
ואזל נביא וקם למלכא על אורחא וכריך במעפרא עינוהי:
eynwhy bmepra wkryk awrkha el lmlka wqm nbya wazl
So the prophet departed and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with his headband over his eyes.
39
והוה מלכא עבר והוא צוח קדם מלכא ואמר עבדך נפק בגו קרבא והא גברא זר ואיתי לי גברא ואמר טר ית גברא הדין אם משגא ישגי ותהי נפשך חלף נפשיה או ככרא דכספא תתקול:

As the king passed by, he cried to the king, and he said, “Your servant went out into the middle of the battle; and behold, a man came over and brought a man to me, and said, ‘Guard this man! If by any means he is missing, then your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

והוה עד דעבדך מתפני לכא ולכא והא ליתוהי ואמר ליה מלכא דישראל את דנתא דינך ופסקת:
wpsqth dynk dntha ath dyshral mlka lyh wamr lythwhy wha wlka lka mthpny debdk ed whwh
As your servant was busy here and there, he was gone.” The king of Israel said to him, “So shall your judgment be. You yourself have decided it.”
41
ואוחי ואעדי ית מעפרא מעלוי עינוהי ואשתמודע יתיה מלכא דישראל ארי מתלמידי נבייא הוא:
hwa nbyya mthlmydy ary dyshral mlka ythyh washthmwde eynwhy melwy mepra yth waedy wawkhy
He hurried, and took the headband away from his eyes; and the king of Israel recognized that he was one of the prophets.

ואמר ליה כדנן אמר יי חלף דשיזיבתא ית גבר דחיב קטול מיד ותהי נפשך חלף נפשיה ועמך חלף עמיה:
emyh khlp wemk npshyh khlp npshk wthhy myd qTwl dkhyb gbr yth dshyzybtha khlp yy amr kdnn lyh wamr
He said to him, “Yahweh says, ‘Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life will take the place of his life, and your people take the place of his people.’”
